KDP and KD*P Single Crystals

Potassium dihydrogen phosphate (KDP) and potassium dideuterium phosphate (KD*P) crystals offer excellent UV transmission, damage threshold and birefringence. Their primary uses include:

  • Frequency Conversion. KDP and KD*P crystals are employed in a variety of frequency conversion applications. Among them are second, third and fourth harmonic generation in Q-Switched and phase-locked Nd:YAG lasers.
  • Electro-Optic Modulation Devices. Both KDP and KD*P have high electro-optic coefficients, which makes well-suited for use in Pockels Cells and Q-Switches.

Large Crystals

The growth process used for KDP and KD*P produce large crystals. Standard sizes range up 60 mm in diameter. Inrad also grows and fabricates much larger custom sizes in-house.

Orientation Types

Different orientations refer to the angles between the beam propagation direction and the crystallographic direction of the optic axis.

  • Type I Orientations. The polarization directions of the two longest wavelengths in the mixing process are oriented in the same direction. The shortest wavelength in the mixing process has an orthogonal polarization direction.
  • Type II Orientations. The polarization directions of the two longest wavelengths in the mixing process are orthogonal to one another. The shortest wavelength in the mixing process has a polarization direction aligned to the polarization direction of the longest wavelength.
