Transmits short wavelengths in the UV down to 200 nm

Northvale, NJ – February 22, 2010 – Photonics Products Group, Inc. (PPGI) announces commercial availability of its patented ultra-violet material, UVC7, which has high optical transmission in the ultraviolet. This highly pure and homogeneous material has significant value in applications requiring high optical transmission of ultraviolet light. Made from single-crystal blanks, the material absorbs most wavelengths of light outside the UV region of the electro-magnetic spectrum. After having shipped over ten thousand UVC7 units to serve an important military application for solar-blind sensing, PGGI now offers this material to the commercial market.

UVC7 has an optical transmission similar to nickel sulfate, and markedly better thermal stability than nickel sulfate. Humidity tests also show that UVC7 is more resistant to fogging than nickel sulfate and several other ultraviolet-transmitting crystals.

All crystal growth, fabrication, polishing, and testing of UVC7 filters are done on-site at the ISO 9001:2008 PPGI facility. Special fabrication techniques ensure that the material is well-oriented, fabricated to exacting tolerances, and polished to the highest standards for reliable part-to-part performance.

“Because our manufacturing is done in house, we have total control over our processes, guaranteeing the highest possible quality—on time and within budget. I am proud that PPGI continually invests in capital equipment and training to ensure high productivity and broad capabilities, which allows us to consistently deliver top-notch products to our valued customers,” said John Ryan, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for PPGI.

Parts up to 1.5” in diameter and 50 mm thick are routinely available. Inquiries for custom sizes are welcome.
